To my younger brother

Letters to a younger version of me. He reads them late, like all younger brothers.

Little brother — you are waiting to become someone who can't be judged before you ship. He doesn't exist. Everyone you admire published scared; I've checked. The version of you that deserves to release the work is built by releasing the work, in that order, never the reverse. Post the half-thing on Thursday. Fix it in public on Friday. And remember what we already believe: the honest hand gets more help than the perfect one — from people, and from higher up.

You'll stand near her for an hour rehearsing the sentence. Run the arithmetic you love instead: silence costs you the whole branch; a no costs you one minute. The same math prices the investor email you keep polishing and the favor you won't ask for. People hold you higher than you think — asking doesn't lower you, it lets them in. Make the move badly if you must. Badly is a kind of first, and first is the only part that can't be skipped.

Mastery is two years, not two weeks — you know this from the mats. Nobody handed you the back take; you drilled it until it stopped being a decision. So when the flute squeaks in month one, log the squeak and stay. Quitting at week three is just judging yourself early, and you've promised to stop doing that. Choose, stay, then teach. Teaching is how you find out you actually own the thing. The arcs close in that order, every time.
